Some Mexican residents used the hashtag apocalypse as the eruption of light coincided with swaying buildings and rockslides. A powerful earthquake near the Pacific resort city of Acapulco that killed at least one person and rocked buildings hundreds of miles away in Mexico City. There is debate about the existence of earthquake lights, with the U.S. Geological Survey saying some reports have turned out to be caused by shaking powerlines.
